Hands up, who reads about 12 articles a week telling them how to get 'French girl cool'? Me. I am guilty. And no matter how hard I try, and whatever I buy, I still don't have that... je ne sais quoi. Well, it turns out, that's because French girls really do do it better - they get their clothes hand made to fit their bodies, meaning no saggy arm holes and just the right amount of leg on show. And their favourite atelier? MaisonCleo. Not only do the formidable duo behind the brand make the most exquisitely French summer dresses, white tops and beach cover-ups on the market, but they also happen to be a mother-and-daughter tour de force. Marie, the daughter, and Cleo, the mother, have teamed up to create a range of summer clothing that's both made to order and not hideously expensive. J'ADORE (and so does Leandra Medine, the patron saint of 2017 style - you'll be in good company).

Who’s your dream customer?

What five words sum up your brand?

Duo, heritage, simplicity, quality, tailor-made

What’s your favourite piece from the collection?

The black crochet dress in 100% cotton! My dream dress for summer to wear with my swimsuit.

What inspired you to start the brand?

My mother always made all my clothes when I was young. Last Christmas I really couldn't find that dress I was looking for so I finally drew it on a paper and my mum made it for me. I always knew she could do everything because she has been a qualified seamstress since her twenties, but it was then I told myself it would be cool to share her know-how with more people.

What have you got in the pipeline?

We have a little surprise and event in September but I can't tell you any more for the moment! Stay tuned :)

Where does the name come from?

Cléo has been my mother's nickname since she was young and old friends always call her only by "Cléo". The term Maison is for the family story : All the women in my family were qualified seamstress. The grandmother of my grandmother even had her own workshop and customers would travel to see her at our home on France's north coast from Paris to have their dresses tailor-made by her.
